Musashi Miyamoto
Fight My Own Weakness and Pride
A non-verbal samurai sword performance about Miyamoto Musashi’s inner battle — fighting not an enemy, but his own weakness and pride.
A short, original 3-minute stage performance featuring 3 performers.
Who is Musashi Miyamoto
He is one of the most famous swordsmen in Japan. It is said that he fought more than 60 duels and never lost. His duel with Sasaki Kojiro is especially famous in Japanese history. In his later years, he wrote a book on strategy called The Book of Five Rings. The book is not only about sword techniques, but also about how to think in order to win and how to live with discipline and clarity. He is also the main character of the manga Vagabond.
Miyamoto Musashi (宮本 武蔵; Japanese, c. 1583 – 13 June 1645) was a Japanese swordsman, strategist, artist and writer who became renowned through stories of his unique double-bladed swordsmanship and undefeated record in his 62 duels. Musashi is considered a kensei (sword saint) of Japan.

Historical Background
The age of war had ended, and the world was moving toward peace. As Japan transitioned from the Sengoku period to the Edo period and the meaning of living by the sword faded, Miyamoto Musashi pursued the path of the blade.
Story
Inspired by Miyamoto Musashi, this performance explores the battle that lies beyond the blade. Known as Japan’s most legendary swordsman, Musashi fought over sixty duels and remained undefeated. Yet his greatest enemy was never in front of him. It was within.
This stage piece focuses not only on sword techniques, but on the inner conflict between weakness and pride. Fear, hesitation, ego, anger — these are the true opponents. Through silence, movement, and intense sword choreography, the audience witnesses a warrior confronting himself.
Strength is not about defeating others. It is about mastering your own heart.
This is the story of a man who sought victory — and discovered that the hardest battle is the one inside.
