Tsukishima, located near Tsukiji, Tokyo, isn’t a tourist area—so the seafood here is cheap! “Uojin,” a no-frills local spot in Tsukishima, will get you excited from the moment you see it. At the entrance, piles of fresh-looking sashimi are stacked high, instantly catching your eye.

Step inside, and you’ll find the place packed wall-to-wall with people. It’s Japan, but it doesn’t feel like Japan—there’s a wild, energetic atmosphere that reminds me of Southeast Asia. If you love this kind of chaotic local vibe, you’ll feel right at home. But if you’re someone who prioritizes cleanliness, this place might not be for you.
There’s no English menu, and you won’t see many (if any) foreign tourists. The place is tiny—classic old-school downtown Tokyo. The must-order dish is the “Oyaji’s Omakase Mori,” a massive platter of assorted sashimi for just 2,000 yen.
Oyaji’s Omakase Mori
Oyaji’s Omakase Mori is a special chef’s choice platter made by the “oyaji” – a traditional, experienced chef. You don’t choose the dishes; he picks them for you, often based on the season or his personal favorites. It’s a fun and tasty surprise!

See how different the fish can be each day? That’s what omakase is all about.

It’s a messy mountain of raw fish, and the portion is so big it’ll make you laugh. The selection changes daily, so you never know what you’ll get. But one thing’s for sure—you’ll be full on sashimi alone. Cheap, delicious, and totally satisfying!
You can’t make a reservation, so big groups might not get in. Going with around four people and sharing everything is the way to go!
